Expressing Passion for Nature through Design

This project stands out as a single-storey residential space with a breathtaking riverside landscape. The design expresses the occupants' love for nature through the use of rough, natural wood, red bricks, iron pieces, cement-like bricks, wall coverings, and other materials. The bedroom is seamlessly integrated with the sloped roof and hanging chairs reminiscent of a wild holiday cabin. This combination of modern aesthetics and natural elements creates a unique and inviting atmosphere.

The design of the public spaces prioritizes transparency, allowing for uninterrupted views of the outdoor landscape from every corner. The floor materials are strategically used to create distinct functional areas within the open-plan guest dining room and open kitchen. The living room features a specially designed wall adorned with ironware and canoe collections, creating a visual focal point. This wall also serves as a walkway for the family's pet cat and provides additional storage space.

In the private areas, the focus is on leisure and relaxation. The entrance aisle leading to the bedroom is reimagined as a flexible space for resting and reading. A blackboard wall encourages creativity, allowing residents to freely write and draw. The master bedroom draws inspiration from the sloping roof of a holiday cabin, and the storage area is defined by a unique hollow cabinet, ensuring that natural light is not obstructed.

To meet the occupants' storage needs, a hidden storage room is cleverly incorporated between the hallway and the kitchen, extending the spatial experience through the use of a lens door. Additionally, a multifunctional room serves as a clothing storage area, bicycle display racks, and a space for indoor fitness activities.

The design of this residential apartment promotes interaction with nature and enhances the occupants' daily lives. The open layout and strategic placement of windows allow for ample sunlight and natural scenery to enter the space. The hidden storage solutions create a clean and uncluttered environment, enabling both visual and physical harmony. The flexible circulation and resting space at the entrance encourage family members to spend quality time together, while the blackboard wall fosters communication and creativity.

Hua Shan Hung's design for this residential apartment is the result of extensive research and careful consideration of materials and proportions. The use of various materials and their configuration shape the home style and create a harmonious connection with the natural landscape.

This exceptional design has been recognized and awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021.
